With three games to play, the Friars are a game out of the sixth and final playoff spot.

Bishop Lynch senior Joey Rutherford threw six strong innings Tuesday at McIngvale Field, but once he stepped off the mound, the visiting Cardinals from John Paul II took advantage.

Rutherford left the game with one out in the seventh inning after keeping the Cardinals in check for the duration of the contest.

JPII had six extra-base hits in the contest, including a grand slam in the seventh to give them a 10-4 district win as the regular season now has just three dates remaining.

Six of the district's eight teams will qualify for the TAPPS Division I playoffs, but the Friars now find themselves seventh after last night's loss.

BL will have three chances to put itself back in playoff position, starting with Friday's game at John Paul II. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Josh Frausto and Gabe Vasquez each had two hits, with Frausto doubling for the Friars' only extra-base hit. Vasquez, Seth Torres and Marc De La Valdene each had RBIs.
