Bishop Lynch had a chance to clinch the final playoff spot in the district yesterday, but their plans were thwarted by the host Falcons of Bishop Dunne. The Falcons scored a sixth-inning run to take the lead for good and hand the Friars a 4-3 loss on the road.

Bishop Lynch (13-17-1 overall, 4-7 district) still controls its own destiny with a two-game lead over Parish Episcopal with one to play. The Friars are scheduled to host the Panthers tonight, weather permitting.

The current playoff situation is as follows:

• The Friars can clinch the fourth and final spot with a win over Parish

• -or- they can clinch with a loss to Parish PLUS a Parish loss to Prestonwood next week

Prestonwood has wrapped up the top seed and district title, while John Paul II sits in second, but Dunne could move ahead into second by winning their final two games (against PCA and JPII). Parish and Bishop Lynch have split their two previous meetings.

The Friars were held without an extra-base hit in the loss at Dunne, with six singles coming from six different players. Jalen Webster drove in a run and scored one as well, Matt Johnson drove in a run, and Aaron Hunter reached base twice on walks.

All three pitchers had decent outings as Max Danielsen started the contest and struck out two while allowing three runs (none earned) in 2.1 innings, Lucas Herrmann allowed just one hit in 2.2 scoreless innings, and George Hettrick (0-1) took the loss, surrendering the game-winning run in the sixth while also striking out three.
