It took a win in the final game of the regular season to secure their spot in the postseason. On Friday, Bishop Lynch will try to figure out the next challenge – staying alive.
The Friars (14-18-1 overall) open the TAPPS Division I playoffs tomorrow night as the fourth seed from District 2, and face District 1 champion Fort Worth All Saints (25-5 overall) in a one-game area playoff at Corbett Field in Fort Worth.
Bishop Lynch needed a 5-3 come-from-behind victory over Parish in last week's finale to clinch the fourth and final spot, and they'll look to turn in a much better effort than in their previous meeting with the Saints this season. The Friars committed a season-high seven errors during an 8-1 loss to All Saints back on Feb. 21 on a neutral field.
In that game, Max Danielsen tossed five strong innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run with four strikeouts and three walks. However, the defensive miscues put the senior in a tough spot on the mound.
The Friars will look to junior Jalen Webster to lead the team at the plate. Webster posted a team-high .369 average in the regular season with 31 hits, 27 RBI, nine doubles, and two home runs – all team-highs.
McVicker is scheduled to get the start on Friday, taking a 4-5 record and 4.70 earned run average to the mound against the Saints. In 44.2 innings this season, McVicker has allowed 45 hits, 30 earned runs, and struck out 30 batters.
As for the Saints, they've gone 4-3 in their last seven games after starting the season winning 21 of their first 23. All Saints has outscored its opponents by a margin of 214-50, allowing just 1.7 runs per game while scoring an average of 7.1 each outing.
