BL crew rakes in medals, state titles at Texas Rowing Championships

Bishop Lynch crew members rowing with Dallas United Crew and White Rock Rowing came up big last weekend during the Texas Rowing Championships in Austin.

Four DUC boats took "Fastest Boat in Texas" bragging rights with wins in their respective events.

Grace Cook Burton won two gold medals in the Women's Varsity Lightweight 4 and 8 boats. Anson Smith won gold rowing in the Men's Varsity 8 and AJ Armenta won gold as the coxswain in the Men's Varsity 4. Armenta recently signed to row crew at the University of San Diego.

Andrew Saunders and Shannon Smith won silver for White Rock Rowing in the Men's Junior Novice 2x while Lucca Whittemore won silver in the Men's Junior Lightweight 8.

DUC's Kate Hettrick (a University of Texas signee) won silver in the Women's Varsity 8, finishing less than a second behind the race winner.

Bronze medalists from DUC include Anson Smith, Kate Hettrick, Emma Hartman, Janey Jackson and Bridgette Clifford.

BL crew is preparing for the final race of the season, the Central Region Youth Championships, scheduled for May 6-7 in Oklahoma City.
