BL Crew wraps up spring season with great showing

It was a great weekend for BL Crew in the final spring regatta of the season. BL Crew members won big with eight medals and five rowers qualifying for Youth Rowing Nationals next month in Sarasota, FL. 

The Central Youth Championships host nearly 1,000 athletes representing 385 crews from 19 teams from across Texas, Oklahoma Colorado, Arkansas and Kansas. The 2,000-meter event is held at the USRowing National High Performance Center on the Oklahoma River.

Andrew Saunders and Shannon Smith, rowing with White Rock Rowing in the Men's Youth Novice 2x, blew their competition out of the water with a first-place finish in both the heat and final, winning a gold medal with a 10-second lead on the second-place boat. 

Anson Smith, rowing with Dallas United Crew, brought home two medals – a gold and silver. In the Men's Youth 8+, Anson defended his 2016 Central Championship title with an impressive win for the gold. Anson and his crew smoked the competition in the time trials with a twenty second lead.

In the finals, with 500 meters remaining, Anson's crew led with a convincing nine-second lead. When they crossed the finish line that expanded to an unprecedented 23-second lead over the second-place boat. Anson also brought home a silver medal in the Men's 4+.

Kate Hettrick won a silver medal for DUC in the Women's 8+ and placed fourth in the Women's 4+ finals. Grace Cook Burton and Katie Hammonds brought home silver medals for DUC in the Women's Lightweight 8+. 

Grace also advanced to the final Women's Lightweight 4+ placing fifth. Katie also placed fourth in the Lightweight 4+ finals and sixth in the JV 4+ finals

Luca Whittemore came in third in the heat and third in the final, bringing home a bronze medal for White Rock Rowing in the Men's Youth Lightweight 8+. 

Parker Stowers as coxswain in the Women's Youth Novice 4+ came in third in the heat and third in the final, also bringing home a bronze medal for White Rock Rowing.

Bridgette Clifford, Janey Jackson and Emma Hartmann: 4th overall in the Novice Women's 8+

Janey Jackson and Emma Hartmann: 6th overall in the Novice Women's 4+

Robert Dunn: 5th overall in 2nd Varsity Men's 8+

Alex Waddle and Patrick Beverage: 6th overall in the 2nd Varsity Men's 4+



Gavin Phipps: 6th overall in the Men's Youth 2nd 4x

Parker Stowers: 5th overall in the Women's Youth Novice 4x
