The Bishop Lynch Friars were nowhere to be found in the state title discussion when the 2016 football season began, but that's likely to change when the new season kicks off.
The Friars — defending TAPPS Division I State Champions — will officially begin the season with their longest road trip of the year and will once again alternate home and road dates for the duration of the 2017 schedule.
The season gets started Friday, Sept. 1 with a long drive to Texarkana to face Texas High, who will be breaking in a new head coach and looking to fill several key positions vacated due to graduation. The Tigers went 10-1 last season, including a 44-21 win over the Friars at Roffino Stadium last season.
The Friars' first home contest will be the following week – Sept. 8 – against the Irving Tigers. The non-district portion of the schedule concludes with a Sept. 15 contest at Kaufman.
The bye week comes Sept. 22 before district play begins Sept. 29 with the Friars hosting Bishop Dunne in a rematch of last year's state title game.
BL will hit the road for district games at Trinity Christian (Oct. 6), John Paul II (Oct. 20) and Nolan Catholic (Nov. 3). The Friars will host district games against Prestonwood Christian (Oct. 13) and Liberty Christian (Oct. 27) before ending the regular season at home against Parish Episcopal on Nov. 10.
All regular season games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
Preseason scrimmages are schedule for Saturday, Aug. 19 at Carrollton Ranchview and Friday, Aug, 25 at home against Dallas Kimball.
Fans can get their first look at the Friars during the 2017 Bishop Lynch Spring Game, scheduled for Friday, May 26 at Roffino Stadium. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
All home contests – including the Spring Game and scrimmage – can be seen live on the Bishop Lynch Athletics YouTube channel (search for "Bishop Lynch Athletics" on YouTube).
