Football fans got their first look at the 2017 Friar squad on Friday during a scrimmage with Carrollton Ranchview at Roffino Stadium.

The varsity and subvarsity teams both dominated play for the most part against the UIL program, forcing a ton of turnovers and scoring more than a handful of touchdowns.

The freshmen and junior varsity teamed up to take on the Ranchview JV and forced seven turnovers (5 fumbles, 2 interceptions). The subvarsity defense also kept the Wolves from gaining a single first down.

Offensively, the JV/freshman squad scored three touchdowns on a 57-yard run, 25-yard pass and 3-yard run to post a 3-0 advantage in touchdowns for the night.

During the varsity portion, Ranchview managed just a single touchdown (against the second defensive unit) and turned the ball over three times.

The Friars' varsity offense scored on its second snap of the night when Jarek Broussard took a sweep around left end for a 60-yard score. Jack Taylor followed that with a 46-yard touchdown run and Jacob Lewis scored from 23 yards out.

Lewis added touchdown runs of five and 31 yards, trucking a couple of Ranchview defenders on the latter. Taylor capped the scoring with a 70-yard run, giving the varsity a 6-1 edge in touchdowns and a 9-1 combined total.

The varsity offense gained more than 500 total yards while limiting Ranchview to less than 150.

The Friars will scrimmage one more time Friday when they host Kimball at 7 pm. The contest will be streamed live on the Bishop Lynch Athletics YouTube channel.
