Friars blank Kimball in final preseason tuneup

In their final dress rehearsal for the 2017 season, the Bishop Lynch Friars again dominated in scrimmage action, this time with a 21-0 scoring advantage over Kimball on Friday at Roffino Stadium.

Jarek Broussard, Jack Taylor and Jordan Hudson each ran for a score while the Friar defense held Kimball to just 21 total yards on 33 offensive plays. The Friars ran for 160 yards and passed for another 89, totaling 249 total yards on 31 plays.

The Friar defense stopped Kimball runs for negative yardage on nine of 21 carries and limited the Knights' passing game, allowing just two completions in 12 attempts.

Broussard opened the scoring in the live quarter with a 20-yard touchdown run, Taylor added a score from a yard out and Hudson went for seven yards on his touchdown run.

The Friars averaged 7.3 yards per carry and 10 yards per pass attempt. Sam Vrana completed 6-of-9 passes in another efficient outing for the senior quarterback.

In two scrimmages, the Friar varsity outscored opponents by a count of 9-1 in touchdowns.

The regular season starts Friday with a long road trip to the Texas border where the Friars will take on Texas High in Texarkana. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm and the game will be broadcast live (radio) on the Bishop Lynch Athletics official YouTube channel, which can be found at http://bit.ly/BLathletics.
