SHREVEPORT — Bishop Lynch bullied John Curtis Christian (La.) for three quarters Thursday at the 8thBattle on the Border Showcase at Independence Stadium. But it was the other quarter that proved to make the most difference and allow the Patriots (2-0) to walk out with a 21-14 win.

John Curtis – the top-ranked team in the state of Louisiana – scored touchdowns on each of its first three possessions for a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. The Patriots were close to making it a 4-score lead when they fumbled into the end zone and junior Plae Wyatt scooped it up and ran 105 yards for a Friar touchdown.

John Curtis totaled 295 total yards, with almost 200 of those coming in the first 12 minutes. Corey Wren went 80 yards on the first play from scrimmage to set the tone for the opening period.

Once the Friar defense settled in, however, they played shutout ball for the final three frames, while the offense got within 7 before falling short in the end.

Jordan Hudson scored his third touchdown of the season in the fourth to make it 21-14, and with the ball back to the offense with time running out, the Friars were able to get the ball just past midfield before falling short on a 4th down pass.

• Wyatt recorded 9 tackles (4 solo) to go along with his 2 fumble recoveries. He leads the team this season with 20 total tackles.

• Hudson grabbed 5 catches for 35 yards – both team-highs.

Warren Walls had another productive game, totaling 6 tackles with 2 tackles for loss, a sack and a pass defended.

Grayson Murphy forced a fumble and posted a team-high 10 tackles.

Caleb Ajakaiye, Ayden Howard, Michael Schwartz, and Jayden Evans each had a pair of tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

Bishop Lynch will play in front of a home crowd for the first time Friday when the Friars host Frisco Centennial (1-1) at Roffino Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 pm. The game can be heard on the BL Athletics YouTube channel.
