FAIRFIELD — Charles Crawford ran for 375 yards and accounted for five total touchdowns Saturday as the Bishop Lynch Friars started fast and held on for a 42-35 win over St. Thomas in a TAPPS Division I quarterfinal contest in Fairfield.

The Friars (7-4) led 14-0 before the Eagles (6-6) recorded a first down and held a 35-14 lead heading into the final period. That 21-point deficit – despite a furious rally by St. Thomas – would prove too much for the Eagles to overcome.

Crawford scored on the Friars' first play from scrimmage on a 58-yard run and added touchdowns of 10, 10, and 1 yard, before adding a passing score to Jack Bradley

Plae Wyatt picked off two passes, one of which he returned in the third period for a 50-yard touchdown. In his finest performance as a Friar, the junior safety recorded 11 tackles (8 solo) and broke up three passes in addition to his interceptions and touchdown return.

Warren Walls recorded a pair of sacks, giving him 10 for the season. Crawford is up to 1,394 yards in nine games this season, boosting his per game rushing average to 154.9. The junior also has accounted for 24 total touchdowns, with 22 on the ground.

St. Thomas quarterback Peyton Matocha threw for 326 yards but needed 45 attempts to do so and managed just 14 yards on the ground. Bishop Lynch advances to next Saturday's TAPPS D1 semifinals to face former district foe Liberty Christian at a site and time to be determined.
