The defending district champions continue to dominate early in the season, taking a quick stranglehold on the district's top spot with wins in each of their first three district contests.
The Friars (6-0, 3-0) topped rival John Paul II, then blanked Parish Episcopal and Prestonwood Christian on the way to the top of the district table just before the Christmas break.
Weather and other issues have put the district schedule in an unbalanced state but the Friars overcame for firm footing after almost a complete first run through the league slate.
The Friars will take an extended break, returning to action Jan. 7 at John Paul II, then competing in the Jesuit-Meintser Tournament on Jan. 10-12. Their next home game is scheduled for Jan. 21 against Bishop Dunne.
Friars 3, John Paul II 1 — (on Nov. 29)
Freshman Adrian Martinez scored twice and Johnny Bruce added a third on a penalty kick to lift the Friars over the rival Cardinals. Bruce also added an assist, as did Mark Bernabe. Nico Bernal recorded the win in goal, allowing the only goal the Friars have surrendered this season.

After a slow start to take a 1-0 lead at the break, the Friars exploded after intermission for five goals against the Panthers. Bernabe scored twice, Jack Adams added two goals, Cooper Stephens netted a shot and Michael Ayala added one. Bernal picked up his fourth shutout win.
