Powerlifting season starts with teams in good standing

The 2017 powerlifting season got off to a great start for the teams from Bishop Lynch, with both finishing in the Top 10 last weekend at the Sunnyvale Invitational.

The Lady Friars finished third overall behind strong outings by Jane Onuoha, Hannah Eboagu and Jasmine Ruvalcabra. All three won their weight classes.

Onuoha took the title in her division with a total weight of 710 pounds, including 120 in the bench, 280 in squat and 310 in dead lift. Eboagu won her class with a total of 810 pounds, lifting 155 on bench, 315 in the squat and a dead lift of 340.

Ruvalcabra totaled 845 pounds to win her class with lifts of 175 (bench), 330 (squat) and 345 (dead lift). Kennedy Martin finished third in her weight class with a total of 680 pounds (145-260-275).

The Friars finished 10th out of 20 teams. Christian Cabra was second and Presley Luce came in third in their respective weight classes.

Cabra totaled 650 pounds (135-260-255) and Luce finished with 1,145 pounds, including lifts of 270 on bench, a squat of 395 and a 480-pound dead lift.
