The Bishop Lynch softball program added another district title and playoff win to its total during the 2017 season, resulting in quite a few postseason honors for the Lady Friars.

Bishop Lynch finished the year 18-12-1 with a 12-2 district mark, beating Concordia Lutheran in the opening round of the playoffs before falling short against eventual state champion Incarnate Word (San Antonio).

The Lady Friars earned half of the six superlatives from the district, taking the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year awards, as well as Coach of the Year.

Senior shortstop/pitcher Kristen Linares (24 putouts, 32 assists, .933 fielding percentage) was named the district's top defensive player for a third consecutive season, junior Riley Cantrell (.463 average, 8 home runs, 35 RBIs) was a nightmare for opposing pitchers all year and was named Offensive Player of the Year, while head coach Amy Wheeler was tabbed top coach in the district again.

The Lady Friars put one player from each class on the All-District 1st Team, led by Linares and Cantrell. Sophomore pitcher Abby Thrash (126 Ks, 3.91 ERA) and freshman Gabby Quintanilla (.464 average, 24 RBIs) joined them.

A pair of freshmen – Lilia Farlow (26 hits, 19 RBIs) and KyLeigh Freeman (21 hits, 23 runs) – received 2nd Team nods, while junior Megan Metry (.442 average, 22 RBIs) received honorable mention.
