Schedule getting busier as season enters home stretch

Three games were on the schedule for the Lady Friars last week, but they were just short of completing them all, thanks to Mother Nature.

Bishop Lynch (10-7, 7-2) remains tied for second place in the district standings, thanks to run-rule wins over John Paul II and Prestonwood, but will have to wait a couple of weeks before finishing their game at Bishop Dunne.

That game was postponed due to weather with the Lady Friars leading 9-7 and batting in the top half of the seventh inning. It will resume April 24 at 2 pm.

Lady Friars 13, John Paul II 0 – (5 innings)

Bishop Lynch scored in all four innings they came to bat last Thursday, finishing the season sweep of the Lady Cardinals at Ferguson Park. Riley Cantrell and Lillia Farlow each drove in three runs, Gabi Quintanilla and Reagan Potts each had two RBIs and Kyleigh Freeman totaled three hits. Abby Thrash (7-7) allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out eight of the 19 batters faced.

Lady Friars 24, Prestonwood 5 – (3 innings)

On Monday afternoon, the Lady Friars blew open a 5-5 game with a 19-run second inning, putting away PCA in three total frames at home. Cantrell hit a grand slam and drove in five, Thrash and Freeman drove in four apiece and Alexis Martinex scored four runs while collecting three hits. Thrash earned the win despite three walks and only two strikeouts in two innings. Freeman tossed a hitless inning in relief with a strikeout.

Due to rescheduling as a result of weather, the Lady Friars will end the regular season with 11 games over the next 18 days (April 10-28), including eight district contests and just four games at home.

The Lady Friars host HSAA on Thursday in a non-district contest at 4:30 pm then hit the road Friday for a district contest at Parish Episcopal. That game is scheduled to begin at 5 pm. A complete schedule is available at
