From one busy weekend and right into the next, the Lady Friar softball team is getting plenty of chances to play and improve in the young 2019 season.
Bishop Lynch (4-3-1) played six games last weekend at the C-FBISD Tournament of Champions, finishing 3-2-1 in those contests. This weekend they'll compete in the 20thAnnual Allen Invitational.
Playing 55-minute contests, the Lady Friars opened Thursday with a 5-1 win over Naaman Forest, with Lillia Farlow driving in three runs and Gabi Quintanilla earning the win in the pitching circle, striking out three and allowing just two hits and no earned runs. That game was followed with a 4-4 tie against Irving Nimitz. Freshman Evelyn Santos drove in a pair of runs and Farlow smacked a double for the Lady Friars.
On Friday, the team fell to Frisco Liberty by a 3-2 mark, despite two hits apiece from Quintanilla and Farlow and a triple by Santos. The day ended with a 7-1 win over Skyline, during which Quintanilla and Santos had two hits apiece, and Farlow tripled and drove in a pair of runs. Quintanilla also drove in two and earned the win, striking out four and allowing just one hit and one run.
The three-day event concluded Saturday with a 6-1 win over Ferris and 10-3 loss to Creekview. Farlow had three hits and drove in three runs against Ferris, with a home run and triple among her hits. Tabitha Jackson earned the win, allowing four hits over five innings and just a single run. Marielma Garcia bagged a triple against Creekview and Farlow doubled. Quintanilla took the loss and the defense committed five errors.
The Lady Friars will take on WT White and Wylie East on Thursday in the Allen tournament, LD Bell and Texas High on Friday, and Celina on Saturday.
