The frigid temperatures that took over the Metroplex may have put an early end to the Wylie tournament last weekend, but the Lady Friar softball program was still able to add two more wins to their total before packing up.
Bishop Lynch (9-7-1) topped Rowlett and Sherman for wins in two of three tournament games. They are back home this afternoon to host THESA for a non-district game at Ferguson Park. Later this week the team will head south for the San Marcos tournament, a three-day event running Thursday-Saturday. Pool play will have the Lady Friars facing Weimar (10:30 am), Hudson (1:45 pm) and Glenn (3:55 pm) on Thursday.
District play begins March 20 with a home game against John Paul II.
Lady Friars 5, Rowlett 3
Tabitha Jackson (6-3) drove in two runs and picked up the win in the circle while holding Rowlett to just three hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts. Gabi Quintanilla had two hits and scored two runs. Alexis Martinez also scored twice.
Sachse 14, Lady Friars 3
An early lead for the Mustangs helped unravel the Lady Friars' plans for a second win, leading to a four-error performance by the BL defense. Quintanilla (3-4) lasted just 2.2 innings after allowing nine hits and six earned runs. Eight runs from Sachse were the result of some sort of Bishop Lynch error.
Lady Friars 8, Sherman 5
The ladies blasted 11 hits, including three for both Quintanilla and Martinez. Quintanilla scored three runs and Martinez drove in three. The ladies had four extra-base hits and three triples. Jackson earned another win, striking out six and allowing three hits and just three earned runs on 91 pitches.
