Lady Friars cap season with third-place finish at state

The Lady Friar track and field team needed to beat Ursuline Academy in the final event of last weekend's 2016 TAPPS State Championships to clinch a Top 3 team finish.

The 4x400 relay team of Jessica Taylor, Emma Williams, Kaitlyn Steele and Mie Somiari did just that, beating Ursuline by more than two seconds to earn third in the team standings. Bishop Lynch clocked a time of 4:09.67, compared to Ursuline's 4:11.93.

On the second day of the event, Steele also finished ninth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:30.35.

The 4x200 relay team, consisting of the same four Lady Friars, finished fourth with a time of 1:45.83. The 4x100 team of Williams, Potts, Reagan Lewis and Kristen Phoenix was seventh with a time of 50.70.

Chasady Johnson was seventh in the 200 meter dash, clocking a time of 26.62.

On the men's side, Miguel Jasso was ninth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.67, and the 4x400 relay team of Michael West, Alex Lara, Drake Burciaga and Jake Younger finished fourth with a time of 3:32.83.
