Lady Friars win four medals during field events at state meet

WACO — The Bishop Lynch Track & Field team claimed four medals Friday with three new personal records established during the first day of the TAPPS Track & Field Championships at Clyde Hart Stadium.

Madison White, Natalie Lark, Diana Effiom and Bri Kipp each medaled for the Lady Friars, while Effiom set a personal record in shot put, Giann Santos set a new personal high in discus and Ryan Huntress reached his best-ever height in the pole vault.

The meet continues tomorrow morning with the running finals. The first event – 400-meter relay – begins at 9 a.m.

White grabbed a gold medal for Bishop Lynch, clearing 5'4", while Kipp took home bronze in the same event with a best of 5'2".

Effiom's record throw of 35'8.5" was good for a bronze medal and Lark cleared a height of 9'6" in pole vault for a third-place finish.

Santos threw the discus a distance of 131'9", exceeding his previous best by more than 10 feet. Huntress hit the 11-foot mark to set his new personal best.

Bishop Lynch will compete in six events tomorrow, with each the boys and girls running the 400-meter relay and 800-meter relay. The girls will also run in the final event – the 1600-meter run. Jane Onouha will compete for the Lady Friars in the 100-meter hurdles.
