Zihlman goes for win No. 1,000 when tournament opens Thursday

When the 56th Annual Knights of Columbus Girls Basketball Tournament begins Thursday in the Competition Gym, there should be plenty of excitement surrounding the Friars' opening contest.

Head coach Andy Zilhman will have his first opportunity Thursday to reach an illustrious mark – career win number 1,000. The Friars (10-4) will take on Carrollton's Prince of Peace on Thursday in the second game of the tournament, which gets started at 4 pm. The Friars' game should begin at approximately 5:30 pm.

The tournament field includes some familiar faces, including Greenhill, Ursuline, Rockwall, Parish Episcopal, and Rockwall-Heath. However, this year the event welcomes a team from outside the Texas borders – St. Teresa's Academy of Kansas City, Mo.

Game 5 – 4:00 pm – Consolation Semifinal #1 (G1 loser vs G3 loser)

Game 6 – 5:30 pm – Consolation Semifinal #2 (G2 loser vs G4 loser)

Game 7 – 7:00 pm – Championship Semifinal #1 (G1 winner vs G3 winner)

Game 8 – 8:30 pm – Championship Semifinal #2 (G2 winner vs G4 winner)
