When the varsity girls return to action Friday following a 10-day hiatus, they'll be looking to stop a three-game slide in the same way they did to open the year.
The Lady Friars – ranked No. 1 in the TABC 6A Private Schools poll – started the season 0-3, but then responded with eight consecutive wins and 19 wins in their next 20 contests. Liberty Christian comes to town Friday for a 6:00 pm contest and could very well be facing an intensely-focused and determined BL squad.
The ladies went 3-3 during the holiday break, finishing a very respectable fourth out of 32 teams at the prestigious Sandra Meadows Classic in Duncanville. Endyia Rogers and Paige Bradley received All-Tournament honors.
They opened play with a 66-53 win over Ridge Point, followed it with a 59-45 pasting of Marion (Ark.) and then topped host Duncanville in a thrilling 66-61 contest to get into the semifinals. On the third day of the event, the ladies fell to Conway (Ark.) by a 64-52 score, then came up just a few points short against Desoto in the third-place game, 47-41.
A non-district game on New Year's Eve saw a shorthanded BL team fall to Denton Guyer, 43-40.
Heading into Friday's game (and then district play), the Lady Friars will turn to seniors Rogers (25 pts., 4 reb., 4 ast. per game ) and Jaida Thomas (9 pts., 6 reb., 2.5 stl. per game) as well as Bradley (7 pts., 7 reb. per game).
District play begins Tuesday at home against John Paul II.
