Wrestling program honors athletes during postseason banquet

Junior Max Mills helped the Bishop Lynch wrestling program regain some of its past glory, notching 39 wins and 27 pins during the 2016-17 campaign.

During the 2016-17 wrestling season, Bishop Lynch put itself back among the ranks of the prominent programs in the state of Texas. Recently, the team recognized several members during the team's postseason banquet.

 

In addition to varsity letters, the following TAPPS awards were handed out by coach Tom Trautman:

• TAPPS Academic All-State – Max Mills and Zach Mazur

• TAPPS All-State 1st Team – Luke Mazur, Warren Walls, Judd Pankey and Greg Martinez

• TAPPS All-State 2nd Team – Michael Metry

• TAPPS All-State Honorable Mention – Max Mills, Zach Mazur, William Parson and Charlie Stalder

 

Trautman also announced the newest recipients of the BL tram awards:

• Future Stars Award – Raul Villa and Caleb Ajakayie

• Most Improved – Charlie Stalder and Zach Mazur

• Best Match (Rookie) – Sean Ronan

• Best Match (Veteran) – Sammy Lattig-Bayona

• Top Rookie – Dillon Hebert

• Most Outstanding Wrestler(s) – Max Mills, Michael Metry and Warren Walls

• Coach's Award for Excellence – Greg Martinez, Judd Pankey and Luke Mazur

 

Mills, a junior, also put his name in the BL record books this season after a season that saw him notch 39 wins and 27 by pin. Those totals are the 10th and 9th most in program history, respectively.
