Friars take second at Prep State Duals in Houston

The Bishop Lynch wrestling team earned a second-place finish last weekend at the Prep State Duals in Houston, as the team continues to prepare for the TAPPS state meet next month.

The Friars opened with a 58-20 defeat of Fort Worth All Saints, followed it with a 43-31 win over Houston St. Thomas and made its way into the finals with a 60-24 beating of McKinney Christian. In the finals, the Friars were bested by Houston St. John's by a 43-30 count.

Luke Mazur led the team with four wins, all by pin, while James Hickerson, Raul Villa, and Kade Findley each recorded three victories. Parker Bender, Charlie Holub, and Will Parsons earned two wins during the tournament.

The wrestling team will compete tomorrow at Highland Park and again Feb. 1 at the Prep State Championships. The TAPPS State Championship meet is scheduled for Feb. 16 at Bishop Lynch High School.
