Friars crush recent competition, set up meeting with rival Ursuline

After suffering a setback in their district opener, the women's soccer team is looking to right the ship and improve its district standing before reaching the holiday break.

Following a loss at John Paul II to open the league schedule, the Friars (5-1, 2-1) have ripped off a pair of big wins at home against Parish Episcopal and Prestonwood Christian, setting up a huge showdown Thursday with rival Ursuline Academy, who once again sits atop the district table, and a perfect 10-0 for the season.

That contest will start at 7:30 pm Thursday at Roffino Stadium. Following the rivalry game. the ladies' next action will be after the new year.

 

John Paul II 2, Friars 0 — (on Nov. 26)

After a scoreless first half, the host Cardinals scored twice in the second half, handing the Friars their only loss to date. It is only the second time this season the team has allowed multiple goals in a game.

 

Friars 6, Parish 0 — (on Dec. 3)

The Friars scored four times in the first half and twice in the second of a runaway win over the visiting Panthers. Mallory Johnson and Jaida Thomas each scored two goals while Alexis Sanders and Andrea Marentes each added one. Sanders had two assists, Mariana Zevallos had two and Johnson, Thomas, and Marentes each had one. 

 

Friars 7, Prestonwood 0 — (on Dec. 10)

A six-goal first half boosted the Friars to a big win over visiting Prestonwood on Monday night. Thomas and Marentes each scored twice while Johnson, Sanders and Cati Cabra scored one each. Assists were credited to Johnson (3), Thomas (2) and Zevallos. Madison White earned another shutout win in net for the Friars
