MCKINNEY – Bishop Lynch started the 2017 season the same way it ended the previous one, with a thrilling five-set match. This time however, the Lady Friars came out on top.

Bishop Lynch (1-0) went on the road Tuesday for a season-opening win at McKinney Boyd, with scores of 25-16, 20-25, 14-25, 25-21 and 15-12.

The Lady Friars – ranked No. 1 in TAPPS 6A – dominated in the opening set, but struggled to find openings against a scrappy Boyd squad in the next two and found themselves backed into a corner.

The team fought its way back to force a fifth and deciding set, then opened up strong before closing out the win.

Madi Tyus (15 kills, 25 digs), Hannah Osborn (24 digs), Alex Galicia (18 assists, 3 aces) and Audrey May (21 assists) led the way for Bishop Lynch.

Chelsea O'Donnell (10 blocks, 6 kills), Izzy Clavenna (7 kills, 6 blocks) and Lauryn Green (11 kills, 3 blocks) made big contributions as well.

The Lady Friars open their home schedule next Tuesday against Plano West. The varsity contest is scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm.
