Bishop Lynch improved to 2-0 on Tuesday with another five-set victory over a UIL 6A program.

Two games into the new season, the Bishop Lynch Lady Friars have already proven themselves in crunch time.

For the second time, the Lady Friars (2-0) went to a fifth set, this time holding off a strong Plano West team on Tuesday for another thrilling win with scores of 25-10, 19-25, 25-15, 22-25 and 17-15.

Elizabeth Moreland (16 kills), Madi Tyus (13 kills) and Lauryn Green (12 kills) led the offensive attack with the help of 22 assists from Alex Galicia.

Chelsea O'Donnell (10 blocks) Izzy Clavenna (5 blocks), Chidera Osuagwu (5 blocks) and Hannah Osborn (16 digs) led the defense. Emma Shaffer served up four aces in the contest.

Bishop Lynch easily won the first set, opening a big lead early and cruising to the 15-point win. The second set saw Plano West take the early lead and hold off the Lady Friars, who would get no closer than four points down the stretch.

Much like the opening set, the Lady Friars stormed out to a sizeable lead in the third, leading by seven or more for most of the set. The teams played to a 20-20 tie in the fourth, but Plano West reeled off three straight and held on to force a fifth set.

In the final set, the visitors jumped out to leads of 8-2 and 12-5. The Lady Friars ripped off 12 of the next 15 points to clinch the victory behind the support of a large student section.

They'll ride that momentum into a tough NISD Volleyball Classic, featuring many of the top public school teams from around the Metroplex. Bishop Lynch opens pool play Thursday against Bryan (3 pm), Mesquite Horn (5 pm) and Highland Park (7 pm). All three matches will be played at Byron Nelson High School.
