With the weekend's national invitational tournament in Orlando looming, Bishop Lynch wasn't about to get caught looking ahead, sweeping John Paul II on Tuesday in the Lady Friar's district opener.

Bishop Lynch (11-3 overall, 1-0 district) put away JPII by scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 25-17, earning their 49th consecutive district win.

Elizabeth Moreland (13 kills), Alex Galicia (22 assists), Izzy Clavenna (11 kills) and Izzy Aguilar (11 assists) led the offensive attack while Hannah Osborn (13 digs), Moreland (nine digs), Chelsea O'Donnell (four blocks) and Lauryn Green (three blocks) led the defensive effort.

Senior Natalie Bennett, making her first appearance of the season, came off the bench in the third set and totaled six digs. Bennett saw her first action since suffering an ankle injury during a preseason scrimmage.

Freshman Harper McDonald made her first varsity appearance and added a pair of kills for the Lady Friars, ranked No. 1 in the latest TAPPS 6A Coaches Poll.

Bishop Lynch opens play tomorrow morning at the KSA Disney Tournament with three pool games, the first beginning at 9 a.m. The Lady Friars will have two more pool games Friday and bracket play takes place Saturday.

District play resumes Sept. 5 when the Lady Friars head to Fort Worth to take on Nolan Catholic.
