After sweeps, Lady Friars one win from district title

A pair of sweeps in the past week has put the Lady Friars just one win from their fourth consecutive district title.

Bishop Lynch (28-4, 12-0) swept Nolan Catholic and Prestonwood Christian in the most recent action, putting the top-ranked squad three games in front of Ursuline with four to play. The two teams will meet Thursday in the Championship Gym and the Lady Friars will clinch the outright district title with a win.

Lynch swept Nolan on Thursday with scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-23. Elizabeth Moreland (11 kills), Madi Tyus (10 kills), Alex Galicia (18 assists) and Audrey May (11 assists) led the offensive attack.

Defensively, Hannah Osborn (10 digs), Lauryn Green (two blocks) and Chelsea O'Donnell (two blocks) were key players. Emma Shaffer served four aces and May added three.

Last night, the Lady Friars went on the road to sweep Prestonwood by scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-16. Tyus hammered 13 kills and Izzy Clavenna added nine behind 20 assists from Galicia and 14 from May.

Tyus had a team-high 10 digs and Osborn added eight while Green tallied four blocks. Galicia and Tyus each served a pair of aces.
