It took less than an hour for the top-ranked Lady Friars to put away their first playoff opponent and punch a ticket to Saturday's regional round, sweeping Beaumont Kelly at home Tuesday by scores of 25-6, 25-6 and 25-6.
With a 17-game win streak, Bishop Lynch (34-4) heads south of Waco this weekend to face a familiar district foe, John Paul II. All four regional games will be played at Robinson High School on Saturday. The Lady Friars' contest is the last of the four, scheduled to start at 4 pm. Bishop Lynch swept the season series with a 3-1 win at Plano and a 3-0 win at home.
The Lady Friars tuned up for last night's playoff match with a warmup game against Rockwall-Heath last Friday. The two perennial powers traded blows in a wildly entertaining five-set match, with the Lady Friars prevailing.
Bishop Lynch will host another warmup match Thursday at 6:30 pm against Fort Worth All Saints.
The top eight teams in the last TAPPS 6A Volleyball Coaches Poll all advanced past the area round. Bishop Lynch – the top overall seed – is looking to return to the state tournament once again. This year's Final Four will take place at West High School on Nov. 10-11.
