WEST — For a second straight year, the Lady Friars played a thrilling five-set match at the TAPPS 6A State Volleyball tournament. Unfortunately, Bishop Lynch wound up on the wrong end of the score again.

The Lady Friars (36-5) took a 2-1 match lead Friday against Antonian Prep, but were unable to stop the Apaches from sending the match to a fifth set, where the girls from San Antonio jumped ahead early and took a 3-2 win.

Antonian advanced to the state title game with scores of 18-25, 25-14, 24-26, 25-22 and 15-8. The Apaches went on to win the following day and capture the TAPPS 6A title.

Offensively, sophomore Alex Galicia set 29 assists, Tulane commit Lauryn Green hammered down 15 kills and senior Madi Tyus added 11. On the defensive side, Hannah Osborn had 18 digs, Tyus had 17 and Green blocked five shots.

Izzy Clavenna added nine kills, Elizabeth Moreland had eight and Chelsea O'Donnell finished with seven with three blocks. Audrey May set 19 assists.

Green and Osborn received All-Tournament honors for their performance against Antonian.

Friday's match was the final appearance in a Bishop Lynch uniform for nine seniors — Tyus, Moreland, O'Donnell, May, Hannay Puddy, Natalie Bennett, Julia Lewis, Zoe Patton and Isabella Springman.

The Lady Friars won 30 or more games for the 10th consecutive season and a fourth straight district title. The team will take a 64-match district win streak into next season. It is currently the longest such streak in the state of Texas by any school, public or private.

All-District and All-State selections will be published as soon as both lists are made available.
