Bishop Lynch made a grand entrance last weekend, entering the TAPPS Spike Down Classic for the first time, beating seven straight opponents, and taking home the tournament title.
The event, which features only TAPPS schools, was held in Fort Worth but must have felt like home court advantage for the Lady Friars (7-1), who pretty much had their way with the field.
Bishop Lynch won every set during pool play, sweeping San Antonio Lutheran, Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill, Cypress Christian and Heritage Christian Academy.
Bracket play opened with a sweep of Legacy Christian in the quarterfinals, then three-set wins over Arlington Grace Prep (semis) and Concordia Lutheran in the final match.
Senior Lauryn Green was named Most Valuable Player of the two-day event, while classmate Izzy Clavenna was named to the All-Tournament team. Green had 57 kills, 15 blocks and 10 aces in limited action while Clavenna totaled 40 kills, 46 digs, and 11 aces while sharing playing time.
The Lady Friars return to their usual tough slate of non-district games, hitting the road this evening to face Plano West at 6:30 pm. This weekend, they'll compete in the prestigious Texas Open, hosted by Allen ISD.
