Friars aim to hit postseason on new win streak

Now that their district win streak has come to an end, the focus is on finishing the regular season strong in preparation for the postseason.

Bishop Lynch (23-9, 4-2) went the distance before falling on the road to both Prestonwood Christian and Ursuline Academy. PCA snapped the Friars' 68-game district win streak with scores of 25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 30-32 and 15-11. Ursuline rallied from two sets down Tuesday to win by scores of 23-25, 9-25, 25-20, 25-21 and 15-10.

Bishop Lynch closes its road schedule Thursday with a trip to John Paul II, but the Friars have compiled a road record of just 5-5 this season. Following Thursday's game, the Friars will wrap up the regular season with three consecutive home games against three of the district's best teams – Parish Episcopal (10/9), Prestonwood (10/16) and Ursuline (10/18). 

Prestonwood maintains a tight grip on the district lead at 5-0, followed by Bishop Lynch (4-2), Parish (3-2), Ursuline (3-2), John Paul II (0-4) and Bishop Dunne (0-5).

• PRESTONWOOD 3, FRIARS 2

Izzy Clavenna (18 kills, 18 digs) and Lauryn Green (14 kills, 5 blocks) led statistically, with strong contributions from Alex Galicia (21 assists), Isabella Aguilar (18 assists) and Emma Cuneo (5 blocks).

• URSULINE 3, FRIARS 2

Clavenna led the team with 20 kills and Green put up 11 digs and 10 kills, but Elizabeth Edwards posted 16 assists and 12 digs while Katie Blomberg put up 16 digs and 10 assists. Sydney Broussard led defensively with 23 digs.
