The Friars didn't need long Tuesday to wrap up their first-round playoff match at home against Midland Christian, sweeping the Mustangs in straight sets to set up a rubber match with rival Ursuline in Saturday's regional round.
Bishop Lynch (27-11) topped the Mustangs by scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-22 as coach Tricia Roos remained unbeaten in home playoff games at BL. Meanwhile, Ursuline took down District 1 champion Liberty Christian in four sets during a first-round match in Argyle. District 2 teams won every match against foes from District 1 as Parish eliminated TCA and John Paul II topped Fort Worth All Saints in a play-in contest before falling to Prestonwood Christian.
The Friars and Bears (26-17) meet for a third time Saturday at John Paul II with the match starting at 4 pm. Each team won on their home court with Ursuline coming from two sets down to win 3-2, and the Friars closing the regular season with a 3-1 win on their own floor.
In the win over Midland Christian, Lauryn Green hammered down 13 kills, giving her 1,000 for her four-year varsity career in which she has spent three years as a starter. Izzy Clavenna had 12 kills and 13 digs, Alex Galicia posted 18 assists and Emma Cuneo led the defense with 7 blocks.
The winner of Saturday's match advances to next weekend's state tournament in West. In other regional matches Saturday, Prestonwood meets Parish Episcopal at 12 pm, Antonian faces St. Agnes at 11 am and Concordia Lutheran meets SA Incarnate Word at 1 pm.
