The men's varsity soccer club got its season off to a great start Tuesday, blanking Episcopal School of Dallas for a 3-0 road win.
Junior Ethan Roberts — making his varsity debut — scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the first 10 minutes. He added another in the second half off an assist from senior Jose Marentes, also making his varsity debut.
Senior Chima Ogueri added the third goal with an assist from Will Gates. Junior keeper Alec Alvarez — making his debut for the varsity club — made several saves to record his first varsity win and clean sheet.
The team will play again Thursday, making their home debut against HSAA. The junior varsity will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the varsity at around 8 p.m.
The junior varsity also shut out ESD, winning 6-0.
The JV Friars had a slim 1-0 lead at the half, but exploded for five goals in the second half.
Andy Santos scored to make it 2-0, Jett Simons scored the third goal, freshman Calder Vanvoorhis added one and Ryan Shaeffer notched a goal as well.
