WACO -- The 55th line performed absolutely spectacularly over the weekend at the Extraco Events Center in Waco to finish second place at the TAPPS 6A Dance Competition. Though they had the exact same score as John Paul II, they got second via a tie-breaker.
After finishing runners-up last season, the team was ready to prove that they were once again ready to make a splash at the state competition. The brigade did so well in both the team competition and individual competition.
Kamryn Melancon placed first in the kick competition and
Madeline Hernandez was a finalist in both the leap and turn competition.
Due to great performances by the officers, Hernandez, Melancon and
Emma Morrison each were honored First Team All-State.
Caroline Strawman earned Second Team All-State.
In the first round, the Friars scored 97.00, just 0.33 less than JPII. In the second round, the Friars outperformed the Bellas and once again scored 97.00 to JPII's 96.67. Giving both teams an average of 97.00 and a tie for first.
Per TAPPS rules, overall score ties shall be broken by:
1) Performance Showmanship score of Round Two
2) Least Deductions of Round Two
3) Highest Execution Score of Round Two
Though the Friars had better scores for tiebreakers #2 and #3, John Paul II had the better score for the first tiebreaker which gave them the state championship.
Congratulations to the entire 55th line for a wonderful season.
