Webster tops baseball accolades with All-State honors

Jalen Webster grabbed the lone All-State spot for Bishop Lynch to highlight the postseason honors earned by the Friar baseball program.

Bishop Lynch finished 14-19-1 in its second season under head coach Justin McFadden, including a fourth-place finish in district and playoff appearance. The Friars were eliminated by Fort Worth All Saints in the opening round.

The junior, Webster, earned a 2nd Team All-State selection after leading the Friars in most offensive categories, including battling average (.356), hits (31), RBIs (27), doubles (9), home runs (2), on base percentage (.462) and slugging (.528). He also swiped seven steals and finished with a .963 fielding percentage at the catcher position.

Webster was one of three players – including seniors Max Danielsen and John McVicker – to be chosen 1st Team All-District. Danielsen led the team in most pitching categories, including wins (5), ERA (3.44), innings (57), and strikeouts (51). He held opponents to an average of just .258 at the plate while hitting .302 himself. Danielsen will continue his career next year at Austin College.

McVicker contributed in many ways, scoring 18 runs, smacking eight doubles and stealing 10 bases. On the mound, he won four games and struck out 31 batters in 50.2 innings. His opponents' average of .245 was the best among the Friar pitching staff.

Seniors Matt Johnson and Aaron Hunter, as well as freshman Kaleb Boyles, were chosen as 2nd Team All-District performers while junior George Hettrick and senior Larson Beaurline received honorable mention.

Hunter is headed to Austin College to play both football and baseball, while Johnson is signed with the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.

Danielsen and Johnson were also recognized for their work in the classroom, receiving Academic All-State honors.
