Varsity and subvarsity football teams got their first taste of live action Friday during an exhibition against Carrollton Ranchview at Roffino Stadium.
The varsity outscored Ranchview 6-0 during the live period, with field goals of 40 and 37 yards.
The Friars picked up four first downs and gained 74 yards in the period despite rushing for just 27 yards on 10 carries. All three pass attempts were completed with gains of 6, 17 and 24 yards.
The defense held Ranchview to just 55 yards, forced two fumbles and recovered one while also recording a sack. Ranchview ran for just 10 yards on eight carries.
During the controlled portion which included both varsity and junior varsity units, the Friars dominated on the stat sheet but were scoreless while committing four turnovers. The Friars gained 169 yards on the ground, moved the chains 11 times and completed 6-of-14 passes for 94 yards.
Ranchview was limited to 52 total yards and five first downs. The Friar defense recorded four sacks, intercepted a pass and shut down the Wolves' running game (minus-25 yards). Ranchview completed just 8-of-25 pass attempts.
The Friar freshmen also dominated Ranchview, scoring twice while blanking the visiting Wolves. The freshmen gained 189 yards, including 160 on the ground while averaging eight yards per carry. Touchdowns came on runs of six and 60 yards.
The freshman defense held Ranchview to just 57 yards and minus-two yards on the ground while intercepting two Ranchview passes.
Bishop Lynch will travel to Kincaide Stadium on Thursday for a three-team scrimmage with Woodrow Wilson and Carter. The contest is scheduled to begin at 6 pm.
