An old district foe comes to town Monday when the Bishop Lynch men's soccer team opens the postseason against Liberty Christian in a TAPPS Division I Bi-District contest at Roffino Stadium.
The Friars (13-3-1) recently captured their second district championship, this time going unbeaten (8-0) in league play. They'll bring a five-match win streak into the playoffs to take on the Warriors (6-7-1), the third-place team out of District 1.
The Friars have been seemingly unstoppable at home this season with an 8-0-1 record, and a goal differential of +30, outscoring opponents 35-5 on Roffino's turf. For the season, the Friars have posted a 56-12 scoring advantage.
Jack Adams (15 goals, 5 assists) and Johnny Bruce (14 goals, 6 assists) lead the Friars' offensive attack while Nico Bernal has posted a 12-2-1 record in goal with seven shutouts and only seven goals allowed.
The two teams have faced six similar opponents – Trinity Christian, John Paul II, Nolan Catholic, HSAA, Prestonwood, and Bishop Dunne. In those contests, the Friars have posted a 9-0-1 record, including a scoreless tie against Nolan on Jan. 17.
Liberty Christian hasn't fared nearly as well against the same opposition, compiling a record of 2-5-1, with the two wins coming against HSAA and Prestonwood … each by a single goal.
The winner of Monday's contest will advance to the area round to face either TCA or John Paul II. The area playoffs are scheduled for this Friday and Saturday.
