When the TAPPS D1 softball playoffs begin tomorrow, the Bishop Lynch Friars may just be the hottest team, having won 10 straight entering Tuesday's matchup with TCA-Addison.
The Friars (21-13-2) haven't lost since March 20 and during their current win streak, the ladies haven't just won, they've done so rather convincingly, outscoring opponents by a 105-23 margin and run-ruling five of the 10 opponents.
The District 2 champions will be the home team in Carrollton, playing host to the District 1 fourth seed, TCA, who enters at 12-10 overall, alternating wins and losses in their previous four contests.
The two teams have played five similar opponents in the 2019 season – Liberty Christian, WT White, John Paul II, HSAA, and Ursuline. The Trojans are just 2-5 against those teams while the Friars posted an 8-1 mark.
Offensively, the Friars will look to junior Gabi Quintanilla (.571 average, 60 hits, 60 runs), junior Lillia Farlow (.442 average, 3 home runs, 30 RBIs), freshman Tabitha Jackson (.424 average, 41 RBIs, 14 doubles), and junior Alexis Martinez (.381 average, 30 RBIs, 28 runs).
Jackson brings a 17-8 record to the pitching circle, having thrown 147 innings with 154 strikeouts and an earned run average of 3.94. She's allowed 146 hits and 83 earned runs this season.
The Friars also boast a team fielding percentage of .924, largely in part to the stellar gloves of first baseman Martinez (.981), catcher Farlow (.980), and shortstop Quintanilla (.952).
