Lady Friars make statement as district reaches halfway mark

After a couple of blowout wins, the Lady Friars still on top of the district at the conclusion of the first half of the league schedule.

Top-ranked Bishop Lynch (25-7, 4-0) opened up a 40-point lead Tuesday at home against Ursuline Academy before coasting to a 53-35 win, and last Friday the ladies sprinted past then second-ranked Prestonwood Christian in a 1-vs-2 matchup featured on local news channels.

The Lady Friars took a five-point lead into the break at home before opening the game up in the second half and rolling to an 81-59 win, taking sole possession of the district lead.

Endyia Rogers scored just five points in the first half but diced up the PCA defense for 30 of her 35 in the final two quarters. The senior USC commit also dished out 11 assists, grabbed seven rebounds and swiped five steals.

Jaida Thomas hit 10-of-14 shots for 20 points, to go with six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Talia DePetrillo tossed in 11 points.

In last night's home win against Ursuline, the Lady Friars led 21-2 after the opening period and 42-4 at halftime, holding Ursuline without a field goal until the 1:38 mark of the second quarter.

Rogers and Thomas played just one period, with Rogers scoring 11 points to go with four rebounds. DePetrillo led all scorers with 13, connecting on six of her nine attempts. Clare Simpson grabbed eight rebounds with Paige Bradley hitting the glass for seven boards and blocking four shots.

The regular season has four dates remaining, with three of those on the road starting with Friday's game at John Paul II. The Lady Friars honor their senior class Feb. 5 against Parish Episcopal, the last home game of the regular season.

Two road games lead into the postseason, at Prestonwood on Feb. 12 and at Ursuline on Feb. 15.
