Women's basketball coach Andy Zihlman was recognized today by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) as a 2019 Victory Club honoree.
In a press release from the WBCA, Zihlman is listed with college coaching legend C. Vivian Stringer as the two honorees to record career victory No. 1,000 during the 2018-2019 season. Zihlman hit the milestone on Nov. 29, 2018, during the Knights of Columbus Tournament, during which the Lady Friars toppled Carrollton's Prince of Peace. The Lady Friars went on to win the tournament title.
Zihlman coached the program to its 29th state championship – a national record – beating The Village School of Houston in the TAPPS 6A finals earlier this month. The Lady Friars finished the season 32-8 and Zihlman won his 26th title as head coach.
In 39 seasons, Coach Zihlman has compiled a career record of 1,021-325, for a winning percentage of 0.759.
