The Bishop Lynch defense recorded five sacks and forced four turnovers in Friday's season opener against Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill, but it wasn't enough to put the Friars in the win column, as the visitors stole a 16-13 win at Roffino Stadium.
Logan Monroe had a game-high 16 tackles with 4.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage,
Cort Doyle reached 11 tackles and
Austin Bell had nine stops to go with a sack, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.
Caleb Williams had three sacks of Shadeur Sanders on consecutive plays while
Ayden Howard (7 tackles) and
Liam Brace combined for another sack.
Andy Cardenas forced and recovered a fumble and
James Quezada picked off a pass for the Friars, who allowed just 224 total yards.
Neither team was able to do much on the ground as the Friars grinded away for 58 yards on 32 carries and the Tigers were limited to 72 yards on 43 attempts.
Michael Light completed 10-of-20 passes for 128 yards and a pair of scores, including a 32-yard pass and catch to
Carlos Marquez to break the scoreless tie late in the opening frame.
Blain Ritter's extra point was blocked and returned for two points.
Sanders threw a 43-yard scoring strike to put the Tigers ahead 9-6, a lead they would take into halftime. Midway through the third, Light found
Matt McLaughlin on a 15-yard touchdown pass to retake the lead, 13-9.
But late in the third, Sanders snuck in from a yard out to give the Tigers the lead for good. The Friars had four chances to win the game in the fourth, but their possessions ended with a fumble, punt, on downs, and the final possession ended when the clock expired.
