PLANO – The Bishop Lynch Friar volleyball team opened up their season against 6A powerhouse Plano West on the road Tuesday night and fell 3-1.
The Friars were able to shock the Wolves in the first set by coming back to win 25-23, giving the ladies an early 1-0 lead. In the second set, the Friars went ahead 20-17 and had all the momentum. Plano West made some fantastic plays to not only come back to tie it at 20 but take the set 25-22. The Friars would hang around in each of the next two sets, but the Wolves would win both of them, 25-18 and 25-21.
Overall it was a very productive opening game for the young team, and it set the stage for a great season. Twelve ladies saw action on Tuesday night, and half of them were underclassmen.
Lauryn Lambert and
Lyric Berry were hitting the ball well all night, leading the team in kills. Freshman
Maddie Smotherman led the team in digs in her varsity debut as the libero.
NEXT UP: The Friars will be playing in the Allen Tournament this weekend.
