PLANO - After dropping a tough and competitive game last Friday to John Paul II 69-57, the Bishop Lynch men's varsity team traveled to undefeated Prestonwood and lost 54-45.
Grayson Bell kept the Friars afloat all night while
Justin Lawrence's big fourth quarter gave the Friars a chance in Tuesday night's district game. Bell recorded his first double-double on the year, finishing with 11 points (3-3 from three), 10 rebounds, four steals and three assists.
BL would jump out of the gate quickly, getting a 10-6 lead from the help of
Sean Calloway, who converted an old-fashioned three-point play. They would trail only by one point as they headed to the second quarter.
The second and third quarters were challenging for the Friar offense, going a combined 5-22 from the field and 1-8 from deep. They also turned the ball over 12 times in the two quarters, with 10 of those happening in the second quarter alone, which is very uncharacteristic for the men's squad.
At one point, the Friars were down by 49-29, but Coach
Kyle May and his team did not throw in the towel.
Justin Lawrence became the spark that the Friar offense needed. Lawrence scored nine points and had an assist in the fourth quarter. The Friars fought back, and with just over a minute left in the game, the deficit was only six points.
PCA hit some big free throws in the final minute, and the Friars' comeback bid fell short. The Lions remain undefeated in district play while the Friars fall to 1-3.
