DALLAS -- The Bishop Lynch volleyball team ended their regular season with a 3-0 sweep over John Paul II. The Friars (30-10, 9-3) have won five straight games and are playing some of their best volleyball as playoff season begins.
This district battle between the Cardinals and the Friars did not mean anything for playoff seeding, but that didn't keep either team from playing with passion on the court. John Paul II came out and simply played better than the Friars in the first set. The Cardinals built leads of 13-7 and 17-10 and were firing on all cylinders. With strong hitting and scrappy play, the Friars were able to get back into the match.
Lauryn Lambert found her groove with her serve and with back-to-back aces, gave the Friars their first lead of the set 23-22. The Friars didn't look back and took the first set 25-23.
The second set remained a back-and-forth affair, but this time the Friars maintained the one or two-point lead. Lambert had six kills and
Leah Oyewole added four as the team hit .333 in the set. This, combined with adequate defensive play, helped the Friars win the second set 25-19.
The black and white were able to run away with the third set 25-13 behind some big kills from Lambert and her fellow teammates. Seven total Friars had kills in the third set and the team hit a game-high .526 in the third set.Â
Playoff season is now among us. The Friars will head down south to Corsicana on Friday to face off against Houston Incarnate Word Academy. The game will be played at Corsicana High School at 3:15.
If the Friars win, they will face off against either TCA or Concordia Lutheran on Saturday at noon in Corsicana.
