DALLAS - Fresh off getting first in the challenge bracket during the Allen Open last weekend, the Friars (10-4) continued their hot streak by winning their fifth game in a row and their ninth in the previous 11 games by sweeping Lancaster (12-5) 3-0 on Tuesday night.
The Friars' first game against the Tigers was closer than they had hoped, but they didn't look back once they pulled away and took the set 25-22.
Lauryn Lambert and
Leah Oyewole each had three kills in the first set to lead the Friars.
The Friars started to take off and limit their mistakes in the second set.
Lyric Berry and Lambert had three kills each, and the Friars took the second set 25-11.
In the third set, Lambert had a service show. She had five aces in the third set alone, showing her all-around game.
Lyric Berry added five kills in the third set to lead the Friars to a quick 25-9 set win. Berry led all players with nine kills in the match.
Overall, Bishop Lynch hit an outstanding .333 as a team, including .667 in the third set. Oyewole, Berry and Lambert all had 13+ hitting attempts and all hit over .380.
Cheyenne Luper had one of her best games all season, finishing with four kills on a .571 hitting percentage.
Cate Hatfield and
Jessie Canavan have proven to be quite the duo as setters for the Friars. Hatfield finished with 14, and Canavan finished with 13.
The Friars will now look down I35 to Austin as they are traveling to play in the annual Volleypalooza Tournament this weekend. Bishop Lynch is ranked #2 in their pool, with Lovejoy being #1 and San Antonio Johnson and Manvel High School the other two schools in their pool.
