Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | BLHS Sports Information

Friars fall in double overtime to Prosper in Colleyville Heritage Tournament Championship

COLLEYVILLE, TX -- Under Head Coach Andy Zihlman, the Bishop Lynch women's basketball team has done many extraordinary things, but for the first time in program history, the varsity team advanced to the championship of the Colleyville Heritage Tournament. After defeating Midlothian, Flower Mound, and Southlake Carroll, the ladies fell to Prosper in a double-overtime thriller, 77-70.

Bishop Lynch 47 Midlothian 34:
The Friars took advantage of a quick start in the first and third quarters, outscoring the Panthers 29-13 in those quarters. Mikah Ford recorded her first double-double of the year, finishing with team highs in both points (12), rebounds (11), and assists (3). Defensively, BL had 13 steals which led to 15 points off turnovers. Fre Vowels and Iyana Axson led the team with four steals each.

Bishop Lynch 40 Flower Mound 33:
Great defense for four quarters is the reason BL won their second game of the tournament over Flower Mound. The Friars held the Jaguars to just 34.4 shooting in the game and 0-10 from the three-point line. Ford and Axson both recorded four steals once again. Vowels was the lone Friar to score double-digits, scoring 14.

Bishop Lynch 50 Southlake Carroll 48:
With a chance to get a spot in the championship game, Vowels had one of her best offensive games of the season. The sophomore had a team-high 16 points on 5-8 shooting and went a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. Aliyah Goins had a great game off the bench for BL, scoring eight points with two rebounds and two assists.

Prosper 77 Bishop Lynch 70 2OT:
The championship held up to its hype, with both undefeated teams wanting the tournament crown. Though the Friars fell in double-overtime, they fought hard through a couple of players fouling out. Ford, Vowels, and Alice Thackston all scored over 15 points in the game with Axson recording a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

NEXT UP:
The Friars hit the road to take on non-district opponent Little Elm. The game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, November 14 at Little Elm.
