Women's basketball falls short in tight home opener

DALLAS, TX --  With just 40.7 seconds left, a three-pointer from junior guard Fre Vowels tied the score at 42, but the Friars were unable to close it out in the final moments and fell 44-42 to Wylie East. The loss drops Bishop Lynch's record to 3-4 early in the season.

With several key players from last year's state championship team no longer on the roster, this season's squad is focused on building chemistry and adapting to a new, guard-oriented playing style due to the loss of many post players.

Vowels led the scoring with her third game of at least 18 points on the season, shooting an efficient 7-of-15 from the field and an impressive 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. She also took care of the ball, recording two assists and zero turnovers. As a team, the Friars followed Vowels' play by having 12 assists to only 11 turnovers. They also played great defense, holding Wylie East to just 30.2% shooting and forcing 21 turnovers.
