DALLAS, TX -- Death, Taxes,
Andy Zihlman in the Final Four. These three things are certain. The Bishop Lynch women's basketball team defeated Concordia Lutheran on Friday night 53-33 to advance to the TAPPS State Tournament. The Friars will travel to Waco to face off against Antonian in the state semi-finals on Thursday, February 29 at 8:00 p.m. CT at Waco University.
Londyn Perry chose a great time to play her best basketball of the season as she has been a force on the court in the first two playoff games. In the regionals, Perry led the team in points (12), rebounds (7), and steals (5) while adding three assists with just one turnover.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Friars started the regional game where they left the area game, with overwhelming defense. After not allowing Incarnate Word Academy to score any points in the second half of the Area game, the Friars held Concordia Lutheran to zero points in the first quarter on 0-6 shooting with eight turnovers. The Friars on the other hand made three three-pointers from
Alice Thackston,
Adriana Medina, and
Londyn Perry on their way to a 15-0 lead after one.
The scales evened out in the second quarter as the Crusaders settled in and the Friars took their foot off the pedal. The Friars had their worst shooting quarter (4-11) while also committing their highest number of turnovers (6) as they took a 16-point lead into halftime, 26-10.
Whatever the visiting coach said at halftime in the Concordia Lutheran locker room seemed to work as the Crusaders came out on fire in the third quarter. They shot 6-7 front the field in the third, including an incredible 4-5 from deep to close the gap to just 11 points heading into the third quarter at 40-29.
The Friars defense clamped down in the fourth quarter, holding Concordia to just 1-8 shooting and four points.
Mikah Ford took over down the stretch and scored five of her 11 points in the fourth to help the Friars close out the game and secure the 53-33 victory.
