DALLAS, TX -- The Bishop Lynch softball team fought hard against St. Agnes Academy on Tuesday night, but fell short 5-3 in the TAPPS Division 1 Regional playoff round. With this outcome, the Friars' 2023-2024 athletic year has officially ended as all spring sports are over.
It was a great overall year with state championship wins, records broke, and countless memories. The spring season provided a lot of headlines for Friar Nation, and below we will wrap up each sport.
Baseball
The Bishop Lynch baseball team had another stellar season as they finished the year with a 29-9-1 record. They fell short in the TAPPS Division 1 playoffs when they dropped a series to St. Thomas out of Houston. They can hold their heads up high as the 29 regular season victories are most wins in a regular season in Bishop Lynch High School history. It ties last year's team as the most in a total season.
Softball
As stated above, the softball season ended Tuesday night in the regionals against St. Agnes Academy. Overall, the Friars had a wonderful season finishing with a record of 16-15-1. The 16 wins is twice as many as the team had last season and with a winning percentage of .516, it is the first time since 2019 the team had a record above .500.
Men's Lacrosse
The varsity men's lacrosse team finished the year with a 3-11 record but ended it on a high note on senior night. After celebrating the decorated class of 2024, the team went out and defeated Fort Worth Lacrosse 13-2 in Roffino Stadium. The program continues to move in the correct direction.
Women's Lacrosse
The defending state champions did not defend their throne, but that was not because of a lack of effort. This year's team was full of great players and that showed with their 7-5 record. They shined in the TAPPS Showcase, going 2-0 with big wins over St. Pius X and Saint Mary's Hall. But after a round one victory over Grapevine, they fell in a tight 8-6 match against Bridge.
Men's Golf
The men's golf team lost a lot of production from last year's second place team. Despite the youth and injuries thoughout the season, the squad had great performances pre-district that included team wins and individual top finishes. Unfortunately, with the inexperience on the team, they failed to advance to the state tournament this season.
Tennis
The tennis program had another great season, ending in the women's team finishing in fourth at the state tournament despite having only two sophomores competing -
Alex Gardsbane &
Brianna Murphy. On the men's side,
Cole Krueger advanced to the state tournament as just a freshman.
Powerlifting
The entire powerlifting program has grown over the past few seasons, and that continued to pay dividends as the Friars finished the year with great finishes at the state tournament. The state tournament included all TAPPS and UIL schools with the best competition. Three Friars advanced to the state tournament,
Colton Monroe,
Lydia Fontane, and
Aiden McGinnis. Monroe finished second overall with a total weight of 1,755, Lydia finished in eighth place with a total weight of 750, and Aidan finished in 12th place with a total weight of 1,465.
Track and Field
The Bishop Lynch track & field team had a spectacular showing at the TAPPS state meet last weekend. The men finished in fourth place while the women finished in sixth. Student-athletes who medaled included:
