Friars Defeat Legacy Christian Handily, Open District Play 2-0 for First Time Since 2020-21

FRISCO, Texas -- Jeremiah Williams' 22-point outburst powered Bishop Lynch to a 63-41 victory over Legacy Christian Academy on Tuesday night, improving the Friars' record to 19-9 overall and 2-0 in district play. This marks the first time since the 2020-21 season that Bishop Lynch has started TAPPS 6A-District 2 play with a 2-0 record—a season in which the Friars advanced to the state championship.

Nathan Day and Jagan Thomas also turned in strong performances. Day finished with seven points and a team-high seven assists, while Thomas grabbed a team-high seven rebounds to go along with his nine points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams started hot, trading baskets throughout the first quarter. The Eagles had their best shooting performance of the night, hitting 6 of 10 shots from the field including three 3-pointers. Meanwhile, the Friars overcame their worst shooting quarter of the game, making seven field goals including two from beyond the arc. Williams and Thomas combined for 12 of the Friars' 19 first-quarter points, giving Bishop Lynch a narrow 19-16 lead.

The second quarter was where the Friars' defense shined. Day led the effort with three steals as Bishop Lynch forced seven turnovers and held the Eagles to just 1-of-7 shooting. The Friars converted those turnovers into 10 points, extending their lead to 33-20 at halftime.

Legacy Christian controlled the paint with 10 blocks, forcing Bishop Lynch to rely on jump shooting. Fortunately for the Friars, they excelled in that area, shooting 56% from midrange.

The Friars pulled away in the second half, building a lead as large as 22 points. The defense was relentless, forcing 27 total turnovers and scoring 28 points off them, compared to just six points for the Eagles off seven Friar turnovers.
